This weekend we discovered Halibut Point State Park, an old quarry by our new place in Rockport, MA. Only a mile and a half from our house, it’s the perfect place for a quiet morning walk while watching the lobstermen pull in their traps.

Our new (albeit temporary) digs are spectacular! The condo is on the furthest tip of a wharf and has a 180 degree view overlooking the ocean. We wake every morning to the sunrise over the Atlantic and eat dinner to the sound of waves hitting the rocks. Remy gets to swim in Marks lobster cove whenever he wants. And at least once a day, Derek and I look at one another and laugh at the beauty around us. Although the 4:30 am wakeups are difficult, we are so grateful for the chance to live in such as beautiful place.

April 22, 2012 - Farmer’s creed

Without a doubt, working in the garden is one of my favorite things to do with my grandpa. Today we prepared the vegetable garden, turning over the soil and making a tier for the new blueberry bushes. And for the rest of the summer, I’ll think of my grandpa watering his garden and picking tomatoes right before dinner every time I pull out our crop share box.

March 31, 2013 - Happy Easter

It was a beautiful last day of March in the Yampa Valley; full sunshine, bluebird skies, and the official start to mud season marked by the appearance of a seasonal steam in our back yard.

Jess is visiting us from Ecuador and we’re enjoying the chance to catch up, try new gluten free cooking, and live out our last two weeks in Steamboat.

March 27, 2013 - Our backyard

I absolutely love climbing up the hill in our backyard to watch the sun set after a long day at work….

Friday March 8, 2013 - Steamboat Lake
On Friday morning, we all loaded into the Subie and headed north to Steamboat Lake State Park, an amazing escape in the middle of some larger peaks including Hahn’s Peak (elevation 10,423).  The lake itself was frozen over and created a huge openness between us and the mountains- we can only imagine how beautiful it is in the summer!

March 7, 2013 - Mom’s Visit!

Martha/Mom arrived this week, and we’re having a great time showing her around our new town!  We had a nice 8 inches of new snow the morning she flew into Steamboat, and have been enjoying the snow tremendously!  The hike at Fish Creek was beautiful- sunny, warm in the upper 40s, and perfect for romping with the pups.  As our time in Steamboat narrows, we are doing all we can to soak up the mountains and lifestyle in this beautiful place.

March 6 2013 - Volleyball
Every Wednesday night, we play volleyball with a group of PTs and physicians from YVMC.  Our team (Tracy, Jeannie, Gina, Dave, & Stacy) are a fun group of used-to-be athletes who have a guaranteed witty remark for every play.
